This year has been the year of collaboration. Concrete Jungle has been teaming up with top experts in their fields to free the people. What it takes to reach our highest levels of vibration, our lifelong goal and our destiny is to lift while climbing which is a metaphor for having compassion and good karma. We have very interesting original projects to share that we are working on right now. We’re going to use this space to inform you of what’s happening now and in the near future please stay in the loop. Here is your update!

Our intense focus currently is dedicated to our women’s self-defence fightclub webseries inspired by Ronda Rousey. This has been our most challenging, ongoing mission which is to create content and edge of your seat films, bursting with exciting episodes that we produced for our first season. We thought it would be not only be interesting but imperative that we approach this on more than one front.

What’s coming very soon to your screen is this webseries of our women of Concrete Jungle Honey Badgers Fightclub members who enthusiastically agreed to subject themselves to potentially dangerous scenarios that have actually happened onto which we overlayed our exciting action filled alternate ending. This might be an extreme example but we live in a patriarchal society and this is what we have manifested. Many men don’t recognize boundaries and only understand force. Their vocabulary does not include the words, stop, no and don’t and they see no repercussions for their actions. Even though this may seem extreme it is also a reality for many women who have experienced intimidation tactics, real-time with no rehearsal. Avoidance doesn’t always work either. Since there is no right or wrong way to deal with this kind of obtrusive behavior, we collaborated a few ideas to help equalize this imbalance. We need to work toward building a more equitable society.

Our first priority is to provide entertainment and content from a humanitarian, women come first, positive health and fitness, martial arts, lifestyle brand point of view. What do you know about Toronto’s ONLY downtown women’s MMA bootcamp fightclub? Where you can learn to fight, get superfit and be the star in our very own fightshow along with your own team!

Superpheroes aren’t just in the movies. They’re built in the dojo (training area). They are what is produced when a regular person decides to step outside of the box and do something extraordinary. To be a true hero to others you must first be a hero to yourself. This process of getting to know yourself to become your own hero is the way of martial arts and fighting arts. Our C.A.T (counter assault training) system will give you more tools for your toolbox in order to defend yourself. Competing will confirm for you that these techniques work for real. Also important to know is that we’ve already begun shooting every session with our film crew in order to present the training as a docudrama segmented into webisodes. We are seeking broadcasters for a reality tv show. It makes us proud that this is made in Canada and one day hope to challenge the UFC. Beginners are welcome. We have already started training and the team is already looking amazing! Classes are filling fast. We will be forming new teams as each team fills up so if your interested we suggest that you join up now before there is a waiting list.

OPEN LETTER

This is an open letter to all martial arts instructors, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and of course Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and anyone that got missed. Love and Respect always!

We have created a sanctioned amateur mma boxing promotion designed to train fighters in the styles which are the pillars of mma that were previously mentioned. We are going to start with the women! And the challenge is sanctioned amateur boxing first. Our fighters against your fighters in a sanctioned boxing ring downtown Toronto.

We’re doing a docudrama which we’ve already started, to give it some momentum. Some of these girls haven’t fought before but want to fight and they need some competition! We can match all experience weight categories for all fighters in the fight show. All we need is You! The fight date is September. There will be more information coming shortly.
This is all in good sportsmanship and not meant to offend anyone! We don’t want to put you on front street… But we are asking you to Like and Share this with your network of friends and all your social media outlets! The plan is to create a huge buzz!! The more we inform the millions of people in Ontario, the GTA and Hamilton, the more people get to see us all showcase our fighters on a world stage!

Concrete Jungle is now introducing, for your training pleasure, for women and men… C.A.T. (Counter Assault Training)

Are you ready to get in the shape you’ve always wanted, or to get back to the shape you used to be? Are you afraid that you can’t afford the time or the money to do so? Do you want to train with an expert in a facility where the vibe is amazing?

Small group training is the answer. With small group training, you’ll be in a class with a maximum of eight people giving you the personalized instruction and flexiblity of a personal trainer at a fraction of the cost. You’ll learn the best of boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, MMA and hone the intangibles like timing, distancing, reaction, rhythm, footwork and instinct all while getting in the best shape of your life.

In addition you’ll learn the specialized skills of a trained fighter – the tools of self-defense and how to use them efectively. Where to strike. When to strike. And how to make it count. Anyone can fight, but fighting for self-defence is fighting smart. You’ll develop strength and overall physical fitness that will provide your base for training and build the confidence you need to develop superior technique and defeat any opponent.

Your typical small group session will begin with a five minute skipping warm-up followed by functional strength training – squats, lunges, medicine ball training, push-ups and core work. After that, we’ll get you on the heavy bags, doing boxing, kickboxing and self-defence. At any time you can feel free to ask whatever questions come to mind, (hopefully training related), then we’ll cool down, stretch it out, throw some high fives and the session’s over.

Class is in session! We are expanding. Sign up now for a class starting in Hamilton in February. In Toronto classes will start the beginning of March. The cost is $40 per session when you sign up for the month. The way this amazing situation works is we encourage you to PUT TOGETHER YOUR OWN TEAM of 3 to 8 people. • Fitness Training and Self Defence – Friends or Foes

Fit doesn’t mean skinny – it’s about being in shape. Fitness is a process that takes you closer to your ultimate potential. Muscular endurance, strength, flexibility, muscular co-ordination, a strong mind and muscle connection are the fundamentals of fitness training. These are your basics. The personal trainer is your teacher, and a good one will impart these basics to you. Having a solid base like this is like learning your alphabet. Once you know your a, b, c’s you can begin to make words, then sentences and then paragraphs. Once you’ve mastered that, you can take it to an even higher level, writing stories or poetry. At this point it becomes art.

Fitness training, just like martial arts is also about mastering the basics, but what do you do once you’ve mastered those basics? This is where self-defence so perfectly compliments fitness training. It provides a goal – an objective – to prevent the inevitable boredom and stagnation that comes with traditional fitness training. And better yet, the skill you are learning can be used to defend yourself!

Learning and refining a skill like this is a lifetime endeavour, a long-term goal, as opposed to the self-imposed pressure for instant gratification. Train in self-defence and the fitness will come a) because the training is very physical, and b) because it’s fun, challenging and something you will stick with.

However, in order to benefit from this type of training, you need someone qualified to take you there – a fitness trainer preferably with a Black Belt possessing all the same techniques as a personal trainer in any gym but with a specialization in martial arts, boxing, kickboxing and self-defence. They will have the skills and ability to perfect your fundamentals, but will use those in an entirely different way. You will apply them to learn self-defence and your trainer will take you to the next level and beyond, fighting the boredom factor and keeping you coming back for more.

This type of training isn’t for everyone. It takes a certain type of person to enjoy the adrenaline rush produced by the blunt force trauma of a fist impacting with a heavy bag, or of being totally exhausted continuing to press on. People who enjoy this training crave variety, fight boredom and enjoy a challenge. They like setting and achieving goals, have a drive to succeed and more than that, to excel. And, they revel in the satisfaction of realizing their potential in a physical way. What’s more? On top of all this, people who train in this way, love the harmony of knowing that the training they do to get in shape, to get fit, or skinny, or whatever their short-term goal is, is the same training that they can use to defend themselves.

My trainer always told me “We’re constantly chasing perfection but it doesn’t exist because we can always improve.” With a long term goal in mind, the learning of a skill, the journey becomes the destination and the mind becomes free of obligation enabling you to focus on Now. Having a short term goal alone only is only having half a plan. Free your mind!

In this video I’m working the speed bag. This is a form of functional strength, often done at the end of the workout. It focuses on the shoulders. It is most effective when the shoulders are already tired from an entire workout consisting of weights, body weight movements and of course don’t forget the thousands of punches thrown during the boxing phase of the workout, after the power punches, after the punching combo drills, with one more thing to do before going home. This is the finisher! picture 3 sets of 2 minute rounds of keeping your arms up with your shoulders burning, and rhythmically striking until times up…
